What to Expect in a Writing Practice Workshop
We will keep our cameras on in our Virtual Studio, turning them off during writing time.
In Writing Practice Workshops, the facilitator offers a prompt, and then we write in response for a limited period of time, usually 5 - 15 minutes.
When the facilitator calls time, we read what we have written, unless we choose to pass.
We then offer feedback to each other. We usually have time for three rounds of writing.
Finally, we conclude the workshop by reading a poem together.
We Work Within the Following Guidelines
We may use prompts however we like, and we are always free to pass on sharing our work.
When responding to fresh creative work, we look for and comment on what is working well. Critique can be offered at a later stage in the process.
When we share new work, we listen to feedback without comment.
When we offer feedback, we focus on the work and refrain from sharing personal stories.
We never assume the work is autobiographical. Rather than using “you,” we refer to “the narrator,” “the character,” “the writer,” or “the artist.”
We agree to maintain each other’s confidentiality.
